Kirkland High School and Community College is a six-year comprehensive school with its own community college in Methil that serves the adult population in the Levenmouth area. Since January 2005 the head teacher has been Ronnie Ross. In June 2012 Fife Council proposed that the school should merge with neighbouring Buckhaven High School to create Levenmouth Academy. The plans were approved in April 2014 and the new school will open by August 2016.〔(Levenmouth school plans are approved )〕 The student roll had fallen from 900 to 576 over a 12-year period. ==History== The Kirkland Junior High School was established in 1963 to accommodate the extra influx of pupils to the existing Aberhill Secondary. It was built on the 13th century land of Michael of Methil, a relative of the famous MacDuff. It was officially opened in 1965. The school has served alongside Buckhaven High School as the high schools for the Levenmouth area since the closure of Aberhill Secondary. The school has two houses, Kinnarchie and Pirnie. The school celebrates its Golden anniversary in 2015. A special school show, ''Golden Moments'', was made for the occasion. The show featured both former pupils and present pupils, singing songs from shows over the time that the school's Head of Music, Mrs Alison Fleming, has been teaching at Kirkland.
